Weddings
January 30, 2010I am a true believer that you must not only be in love with your photographer’s work, but you must be in love with her as well. Your photographer will be the only wedding vendor there with you from beginning to end. She will be there for your most intimate moments- getting dressed, the first look between you and your fiance, the first kiss, and finally the departure. You need someone you feel comfortable with, and deeply trust to take amazing pictures throughout the entire day. My work is unobtrusive, I allow the day to unfold naturally, and create it’s own works of art itself. My wedding packages start at 3,500.00, and are generally tailored to fit your needs. Below are a list of common questions I receive:
What are your prices?
We do not offer packages because we want to give you the best – your wedding day deserves nothing less. We keep it simple, you can commission us to document your wedding for 6,000.00 and with that you receive all day coverage, two photographers, a beautiful hand-made artisan album commissioned especially for you, travel (in country), the high-resolution digital negatives, and an engagement session. We have found that all of these things are crucial in creating and telling the story of your day, and to offer lesser packages would be a disadvantage to you, the client. if there is something that you would like that is not listed here, please do not hesitate to ask, and I can give you a quote. Prints and additional albums can always be purchased ala carte after the wedding day.
How many photographs will I receive?
Every wedding, like every couple, is different. During the wedding day I am taking photographs constantly. I never set limits on how many photographs you will receive, or how many photographs I am willing to edit. a rough estimate may be anywhere from 500-1000 final finished images.
Are the images in color or black and white?
Because I shoot both film and digital, I use my best judgment from experience and education to know which images will look better in monochrome.
How much time do you need for the wedding party and family photos?
I strongly suggest trying to get most of the formals out of the way before the ceremony. Often, a bride and groom will see each other before the ceremony- we make it into a very special occasion that we call “the first look”. We create a quiet time before the chaos of the ceremony and reception for you and your partner to have a few moments alone, and we are able to capture those first glances on film. Often, it helps relieve some pre-wedding jitters, and the photographs we get are amazing. The “first look” photographs, and the intimate posed portraits we take of you and your partner immediately thereafter take around an hour to an hour and a half. if we can’t fit this into the wedding day schedule, I would encourage you to schedule a bridal portrait session. After the “first look”, it’s beneficial to schedule the formal posed pictures of family members.
Regardless if you decide to take formals before or after the ceremony It takes 5-10 minutes for each formal photograph. I strongly suggest to narrow your formal portraits down to 10 at the most (which will take around 50 minutes). To streamline this process, we do not allow other people to photograph the formal portraits so we can move along quickly and get you and your guests to either the ceremony or the reception on time!
Do you do videography?
We actually do filmography, on vintage super 8mm cameras. Our films are beautiful works of art, capturing all the love and nostalgia that silent films encompass. Filmed with real film, we transfer it to digital media, and set it to music, so it will be easily viewable and accessible in today’s modern age. We love super 8 and all it’s grainy lovliness!
Is there anything I need to do to insure my photos look great?
Actually, yes. You play a large role in how your photography turns out. For example, pick rooms to get ready in that have large windows, and ample natural light flowing in. Remember that I will be capturing your day, just as it is, so if you’d rather not have an open suitcase on the bed with your garments flowing out, then it’s best put away (but, remember, that can be just as beautiful from a photo-journalistic standpoint). You can also make sure that you relax, and trust us to do our job (and do it well!). Artists always have a bit harder time creating great work when someone is hovering over their shoulder. And, it never hurts to keep water and snacks around for not only you and your bridesmaids (we want to keep your tummy happy throughout the long day), but for your photographer as well. It’s hard work keeping up with a wedding, and since we cant take a break to grab some food, a few snacks are greatly appreciated. It goes a long way in keeping our minds sharp and creative.
Do you have back-up equipment?
Always! Technology is imperfect. I take every precaution to making sure I’ve got your wedding photography on two separate media storage devices throughout the wedding day itself. I always bring a spare camera, and have many extra lenses and lighting equipment in case something should fail.
Do you meet with perspective wedding clients?
Of course! You don’t have to have booked me as a photographer to share some coffee and wedding photography ideas. If you do decide to hire me as your photographer, we will have another meeting later on to discuss your wedding in greater detail and the style you are looking for and my album products line. Finally an engagement session is always encouraged to get you comfortable with being in front of the camera, and having fun with your photographer.
Why should I have an engagement session?
Most couples want an engagement session so they can send out professional photographs in their wedding announcements, save-the-dates, or invitations. However, there is a much more important reason to have an engagement session. It allows you to get comfortable with the idea of being in front of a camera, and to get to know me as a photographer. It is almost like the rehearsal of your wedding photography. At your wedding, I will be capturing memories all day long, and 80% of them will be of you. The last thing you should be worried about is if you will be self-conscious on your wedding day in front of your photographer. After an engagement session you will feel more relaxed about being photographed, and more familiar with me as your photographer. We offer an engagement session to all of our wedding clients.
Why should I hire you as my photographer?
I blend many styles of photography together to fit your own individual style and need. I want to make your day as memorable and perfect as you have always imagined it, and I’m open to whatever ideas you have or places you’d like to be photographed. I believe anything is possible, and I never say it can’t be done. We keep it simple- no packages, just everything that you could want. I am fun, relaxed, and allow the day to unfold itself to me without interfering. I guide instead of push. Most of all, I really love weddings, and am always so excited and honored to be chosen to capture your day. I completely get it; I understand all of the hard work that goes into the small details. When it comes right down to it, I’m a girl, probably just like you, who happens to have a knack for photography. And what girl doesn’t love weddings?
How do I reserve you as my photographer?
A 10% retainer is required, and a signed contract. Dates are first come first serve, see the calendar section. Contact me by e-mail or phone and I’ll check my availability and respond quickly!
