Archive for the ‘boudoir’ Category

remember how in all of my previous style guides on engagements, maternity, and family portraits I told you less is NOT more?  well, here is the exception.

Often times a client will have a duffle bag full of lingerie to choose from during her boudoir session, but i recommend only wearing 3 or so outfits.  My style of boudoir is less ‘Victoria’s Secret” and even less “maxim”  and more fine art sensual.

the simpler the wardrobe, the better.  and even better yet, is none at all.

Here is the thing, ladies.  he doesnt care if you are wearing his favorite baseball hat and posing with his bat.  it wont turn him on more to see you in a cowboy hat with his button down t-shirt on.  these images are about you, about your body, about your sensuality, and your confidence.

THAT is what is going to turn him on the most.  these images are as much for you as they are for him, and you can be beautiful and artful and still be sexy.  if he does have a thing for girls in cowboy hats, lets incorporate it, but do it in a proper manner.  a cowgirl on the hotel room bed seems a little…. awkward and out of place.  why not in a private field at sunset?  that seems a little more authentic AND sexy to me, right?

While i was in Cincinnati I had the opportunity to work with Lindsay Adler and work on this incredible fine art nude shoot super late at night (we’re talking past midnight). I love how it just seems that other creatives always seem to come up with the best work super late at night; i dont think we got to bed any earlier than 3:30 or 4 am any night i was there.

Over this next year I’m going to be focusing heavily on building my own fine art portfolio up, concentrating a lot on fine art nudes. this will be something completely separate from boudoir photography. Boudoir’s emphasis is on the sensuality and seduction of a woman, whereas in fine art nude photography the concept can be related to just the study of the form of the body, or another concept entirely- not related to sexuality at all. a lot of times it can be just a study of light and shape, of an abstract concept, or a narrative message.   If you haven’t ‘liked’ SugarLeaf Photography on facebook, now is the time to do so, because throughout the year I will be making calls for subjects to be photographed. I will be looking for professional ballerinas ( i have an amazing concept for this!) and real and honest shapped bodies (stretch marks, cellulite, wrinkles, etc).  stay tuned for more updates!

Just a little peak at the boudoir session i had a few weeks ago with miss T,  and we’re so thankful for the rights to publish a few of her images.  Although I shoot boudoir a couple times a month, I rarely get to publish images because we always respect the privacy of our clients 100%. But, occasionally we have an exceptional client, like Miss T.  She  wanted to help enable other women to have the same experience she had- one that bolstered her self confidence and self-esteem.  We all have areas of our body that we’re a little less than thrilled about, and to bare it in front of a camera is a real testament to the love you have for yourself and your body. To be bold, brave, and self-confident enough to schedule a boudoir session is one of the most empowering things a woman can do for herself, and it’s usually quite the bonus for the man in her life too! and who am i kidding? boudoir shoots are super fun.  when else do we get to drink champagne listen to playlists while shooting?  definitely my style!

tour dates announced! 2011

January 17, 2011

tourdates

alright everyone! the tour dates for 2011 have been listed!  this is preliminary, of course, since we’re only just halfway into January so far!  dates are subject to change, so even if it looks like i will not be in your area on a certain date don’t hesitate to contact me anyway!

i repeat… don’t hesitate to contact me!  things change, travel schedules change, etc.  but, if it looks like i AM going to be in your area at some point, give me a ring (or an email, you know) and we may be able to set up a shoot.   if there is enough interest i may be able to extend my travel dates beyond what i have listed here to do a workshop for photographers, hold classes, do a boudoir marathon, engagement marathon, etc.   i’m always up for possibilities!

ps- i’m dying to go to NY (i’ve never been! can you believe that?) or anywhere out of the continental US as well, as i’m feeling a bit itchy for some good culture.  if you know of anyone getting married or needing a photo-shoot in any of these areas, by all means, contact me!

pps- are there really only three months out of the year that i’m going to be home?  in.sane.  go 2011!

pssst… hey ladies… ;)

We’re announcing the valentine’s day boudoir marathon! so risque!

I dont post all the boudoir photography i do on my blog for obvious reasons (we keep confidentiality and privacy first priority), but when something this big happens, we’ve got to advertise it! Esther and I are teaming up for an amazing weekend of making you feel like a super model and getting sultry images to give to your man for valentine’s day.

Go check out www.boudoir.estherlouise.com for the skinny!

seriously though… champagne and hors d’oeurves? professional make-up? magazine quality images? a pin up calendar? valentine’s gift for your man?  there are only 15 spots available, and they sell out quickly, so contact either myself or Esther to make your reservation!  can’t wait to see you!

As you guys all know, I’ve recently lost my dad to cancer.  Recently as in, 8 weeks ago tomorrow.  Seeing his battle was something i will never forget, something that is burned into my memory. Because I’ve seen first hand how battling cancer can be so confusing and frightening, and how it has the ability to topple your self-confidence, I want to do something to combat that.  I feel that boudoir photography, maybe more than any other type of photo session, helps build someone’s self confidence. to pose nude or almost nude in front of a camera takes strength and seeing the images afterward, and seeing that it really is YOU there, so beautiful in your own skin, can be one of the greatest confidence builders of all time.

To celebrate the beauty and strength of women battling breast cancer we’re offering up a complimentary boudoir session.  Although my dad did not die of breast cancer, it is the most common cancer diagnosed among U.S. women. The pampering that occurs during a boudoir session helps re-build confidence in you, and your body and helps ease the feelings of vulnerability that can come with such an awful disease.  The stunning final images remind you that no matter what you and your body have battled, you are still a feminine, beautiful, strong woman!
If you have battled or are currently battling breast cancer, send in your story along with one or two photos and we will post them to the blog. Then, you, the readers will choose the contest winner based on the most number of votes.  if you know a friend with breast cancer, feel free to send in their story (and why they deserve this session) for them, but please send us their contact information so we can verify that they are alright with having a boudoir session.  So spread the word everyone, we’re giving back this year… giving back confidence, beauty, strength,  and most importantly, love.

deadline for applications is October 31 , so get busy!    send us your story :)

re-launch!

July 21, 2010

we’ve been working super hard here! on top of getting our clients photos/albums back to them, we’ve also been working on a big overhaul on our website and marketing material. it started with wanting to make the logo more… “us”… which turned into wanting to make the website more “us” and then once you start, you really just cant stop.

go check it out!! quick! and then come back here to learn more.  http://www.sugarleafphotography.com

so the new logo…

was inspired by my vintage typewriter that i bought at goodwill for 5 dollars.  instead of finding a digital typewriter font, i literally typed out sugar leaf, scanned it in, and created the first part of the logo. “photography” was then handwritten. i love the imperfectness of it,  vintage quality, and the fact that it is wholy unique to us, and us alone.  and i feel it represents everything about our photography up and down and sideways.  YAY!

and the website is jam packed with a completely new portfolio, so be sure to spend some time on there.  there will be more changes to come, like a new way for clients to proof and order their images, as well as a gallery specifically for our album products.  not to mention, this blog is about to get a big overhaul as well!  we can’t very well have the old logo on here, and the new logo on the website :) but i just couldnt hold back the re-launch of the website any longer! much too excited :)

smoldering! yes! i know!

she is absolutely gorgeous.  more from the boudoir session in Miami. some big things are in the works for boudoir sessions right now…  the only hint i’m going to give is that it’s for charity.  and the other hint is that you’re probably going to want to stay tuned for more details, and also get your tissues ready because, well… you might tear up a little bit.

confused yet? i KNOW! im just so SECRETIVE!!!  muah hahaha!

boudoir in miami

April 9, 2010

have i mentioned how much i love shooting boudoir?! i had the opportunity to shoot with Kay Eskridge at the After Dark Photography convention in miami, and work with a couple of great models.  it’s not often i can post boudoir to my blog because most clients like to keep that photo session private. boudoir sessions are honestly one of my favorite sessions to shoot.  i love it when women leave feeling sexy, empowered, comfortable with their bodies, and most of all confident with themselves.  this is really about the woman and celebrating her.  not to mention, the guys don’t mind getting this as a gift as well :)

worried you wont be able to throw your modesty away for a boudoir session?  i sometimes equate it to getting a massage.  if you can undress for the masseuse, you can definitely do this!  clothing is optional, meaning you can wear as much or as little as you would like.  As an experienced photographer, i help guide you to positions that are most flattering, and will make you FEEL and BE sexy, whatever your body shape.   this isn’t just about the final product, it’s about the experience as well!

if you’re interested in scheduling a boudoir shoot to give to your  fiance, your husband, or just so you can celebrate yourself, please don’t hesitate to contact me. i can show you a more complete portfolio with styles ranging from edgy to classy, to vintage pin-up.
