I wanted to share this post on Friday, but we were taking a day of silence for Japan, with the For Japan, With Love fundraiser/awareness. but, we are SO honored that yet again On To Baby has wanted to publish our work!  they’ve shared my maternity series, and i’m so happy to be able to share it with such a large audience! if you’re expecting a baby (or even just dreaming about having one!) or have little ones at home, you’ve definitely got to check their site out! it posts great ideas for nurseries, newborn sessions, maternity sessions, birthday parties….  its basically just like eye candy every single day! by far my most favorite website for little ones and inspiration.

Wow you’re a huge copycat hack. I hope you know that it’s so obvious you ripped off Pacing The Panic Room’s wife’s maternity series only you did it embarrassingly poorly and you and your ‘photographer husband’ look like untalented uninspired hacks. Oh and you’re fucking ugly, a bad writer, and shitty as fuck at dressing yourself.

    Sucks to be you!

    Hi Elizabeth,

I’m so sorry that the maternity series upset you so much. I actually adore Pacing the Panic room and Cole, and had been in contact with Ryan before starting my own Maternity Series. I linked back to him, gave him credit for the original idea, and embarked on my own journey to document my own pregnancy. it was the greatest compliment i could have given them. he has started a wave of other photographers doing maternity series, a movement. i am but one of the other photographers. i dont claim to be better or worse, it is just my own journey through pregnancy and birth.

We never claimed to have invented the maternity series, and you’ll find that many many other photographers are doing maternity series similar.

again, i’m so sorry to have hurt or ofended you in such a powerful way, and i hope that you’ll realize that you have also injured me tonight. your insults were painful and uncalled for.

Ummmm wow! Lexia-YOU are beautiful, have an amazing spirit and are an incredible photog! You are also a class act who would never speak unkindly of others. I am so sorry that someone has taken time out of their life to be cruel.

there could have been a more tactful, graceful way to respond to what she believes is copyright infringement. but ignorance and assumptions have a way of making those who attack look far worse than those being attacked. you’re a class act, lex, don’t you worry.

not only that, but good for you in responding and sharing her comments rather than simply ignoring and deleting. it’s good for everyone to know where you stand and how foolish, unfair and downright mean some people can be.

    love you!!!

    Lexia,

Your photography moves me every time I see it. It has meant so much to me personally to have the images of my life captured through your creative eye. As I see more and more of the people I have cared for in my life turn to you to do the same for them I am excited and proud of you. So many times, your work has brought tears of happiness to my eyes.

I am so proud to say you are my friend, you are talented, caring, inspiring, and one of the most beautiful women I have ever known.

I love you, and I hope you’ll keep in mind that there will always be people who want to drag you by the hair down to where they are hurting…even if you are not the cause of their hurt. Chin up, to you and to Elizabeth too. Whoever Elizabeth is, I hope she looks back at her comment with shame and humility and makes a decision to be a more positive presence in this world.

  6. Kristin says:

    Lex,
You & Dustin are so talented. You have a beautiful family and I am so inspired by you and your life – and blessed to call you a friend. Ryan did an amazing thing when he captured each week of his wife’s pregnancy and it is a homage to him that you & other photographers have asked him to allow you to do the same.

You are one of the most beautiful women that I know and you have a heart of gold – your maternity series inspired me to do the same someday so that I can show my baby just how much love was there before they were even born. I looked forward to reading your blog every single week for the update and to hear how baby was doing and momma was feeling.

You encompassed the most beautiful part of being a woman and I am so proud of you being published. I know Cole and Ryan would be thrilled that their idea has traveled so far and that pregnant women everywhere were inspired to continue making memories through each week of pregnancy.

Lots of love to you, my dear.

  7. Kate says:

    Hey Elizabeth!

I think you could use a massage…..I would love to see what you look like and what your “talents” are. It takes a lot to put yourself out there like Lexia did! So, let’s live by the golden rule and grow up….

    Lexia,
You are one of the most beautiful & talented people I’ve ever met…..inside & out! Keep inspiring the world.

  8. Jason & Maureen says:

People like this only validate how good you are! With your help and amazing ability Maureen and I have amazing memories to share from our wedding , thank you so much for what you do.

  9. Lex,

I love this series with all my heart and soul, so much that I have sent it out to many people over the last several months who are expecting. Everyone said the same thing how beautiful and talented you are. You have been inspirational to so many people, please do not take that comment to heart. You photography has brought me to tears mulitiple times and you have a knack for capturing the raw emotion. Art is subjective and people of the creative nature are going to think alike no matter what. We are all original in our own way, even if we are using another artist’s work for our inpiration. Keep chugging along, you are doing fantastic!!!!

  10. Amy says:

Wow. So Lexia – the truth is this – I don’t feel sorry for you in this situation. Think about it – if your maternity series really made Elizabeth that upset to write these things – the one to feel sorry for is Elizabeth. I pray she doesn’t have children of her own or a husband. I can only imagine the misery she brings to their lives! It is sad to see what hate and jealousy can do to a person. If anything, this “Elizabeth” girl just made you that much stronger. The only person it “sucks to be” is Elizabeth – thank God every morning that you are not her (or related to her in any way for that matter)!

  11. Sarah says:

    Lex-

What a fool Elizabeth is to criticize such a beautiful tribute to motherhood, birth, family and photography. I had not heard of Pacing the Panic Room, so I checked it out this morning. Yes, the series is similar–but who cares. If artists were not meant to inspire each other then all art would have stopped at the first aboriginal painting on a cave wall. Get real, lady–art feeds art! Your series is clearly influenced by the Panic Room series but has your own spin, creativity & “voice”. I love you Lex and I love this series because I remember all the things happening around that time–aside from the baby. You are loved, supported & inspire others. In fact, I will be the next “copycat hack” (really??) because I fully intend to document my next pregnancy in this lovely way! So there! haha!

  12. Neil Kiekhofer says:

I am a believer in having the right to write what you like. But to make such a hateful comment is wrong. It is childish and shows nothing but a lack of vocabulary and imagination. (Just because you have the right doesn’t mean you express it on another’s site.)

The series was great. She made it her own and was done for her. If one doesn’t like it, don’t read it. If you have an issue with it contact her directly. Her inspiration was noted and never claimed to have created it.

Lex is a great photographer. I love her energy and love for life. I see the passion for her family show through her images.

More power to her for responding so well.

I hope Lex powers through and shows more of her work off!

  13. Jen says:

Elizabeth – What a sad, jealous little person you are. GROW UP!!!

Lexi – Your work is AMAZING and you and your family are beautiful! I can’t believe that some immature little girl would dare to get on here and say such things. If she disagrees with your style of photography, then she should move on past your site. I know I love to enjoy all of your great pictures!

  14. Tanya says:

Wow…..Elizabeth, whom ever you are, it just goes to show how truly ignorant some people are now that we can all blog with such privacy and discretion. Aren’t you so lucky to rant in such a discrete manner and never feel the criticism you have shown to Lexi. I stumbled across this blog through a friend of a friend and can say, though I don’t know Lexi, that her work is absolutely top notch. I do, however, know a thing or two about fashion. I have been in the industry for 10 years and can say Lexi has a great eye for fashion, style, & color balance, I pity you, Elizabeth, for your disgusting rant you went on towards an individual whom is obviously so talented that you find her threatening. It’s truly sad and rather pathetic.

Lexi, you seem like a very professional woman and I applaud you!

    -Tanya

  15. Raquel says:

Elizabeth – WOW! Are you kidding me?

Lexi – I don’t know you personally. I came across your facebook/website through other photographers and have sort of followed you ever since. What initially caught my eye was your maternity series. I was pregnant at the same time, and consider myself to be a photographer. I always told myself that I wanted to do a series like yours, but never had the courage or commitment to do so. Now I kick myself, because I will never carry another child, and will never have the chance to do so. What you did too creativity, commitment and bravery. We women don’t always feel beautiful when we are 8 months pregnant and can’t touch, or even see, our toes! Yet, you continued to shoot, and look absolutely beautiful and amazing in all of your shoots. You documented a truly incredible period in your life . . . and your child’s life.

What’s more, is your photographer ….. ALL of your photography inspires me almost every day. It inspires creativity in me….it inspires me to try to live a better and more creative life. This may sound really corny….but, when I see something of yours that I want to share with others….I always describe you to my friends like this, “you know, the girl on fb that I want to be….you now, the creative, amazing photographer.”

Don’t let one obviously ignorant, jealous and clueless individual burst your bubble because there are lots of us out here that absolutely love what you do – probably more than you will ever know! Keep doing what your doing!!!!

  16. Raquel says:

the above should read “what’s more, is your photography”, not photographer…..

Sorry….Elizabeth apparently got me a little fired up!

  17. Allison says:

When will people learn that swearing only makes one look uneducated and immature? Not to mention low class. Ugh. Lexia, please don’t pay attention to anyone who would stoop to this low level. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, but if one can’t express that opinion in a respectful manner, it’s not worth listening to.

  18. Sadie says:

    Lex-

It couldn’t be more obvious that this person is incredibly insecure and jealous. Or blind, I guess. Your maternity series is AWESOME! Her comments can be translated into” “You are really pretty and stylish and successful, and I can’t handle it. You have a loving husband and a successful business, and I am so disappointed in my own life, that I have to tear you down.” What a freak. I’m glad you posted it, and responded in such a classy way. I’m not that classy. Elizabeth, you’re pathetic!

Lexi, You are an amazing photographer and a great person. I adore your work. You are the first person I will call when I need infant photos:) I can’t wait! And I will come to you…

    Smooch your babies for me,

    Sadie

  19. Andrea says:

I LOVE your maternity series, so I don’t care what other people think. It makes me jealous because it’s so beautiful and you are the most beautiful person I know (and I want some of the outfits you wore in your series- I still need one of those cool dresses!). I hope you didn’t take that first comment to heart. I stalked your blog waiting for the next week’s photo when this was going on.:) Love & miss you!

  20. Danielle says:

I found your website through the on to baby post and I am so glad I did. I am a photographer as well and find your work inspiring. Your maternity series was fabulous and you are absolutely adorable. If my husband and I are ever able to enjoy the journey of bringing a child into this world I hope we will be able to document it in a similar way. Thanks for sharing your journey and work with all of us!

  21. Sabrina says:

Can I get in on this comment chain? Firstly, I follow Ryan, too, but like Steve Jobs didn’t invent THE PHONE, Ryan and Cole (even in all their adorableness) didn’t invent THE MATERNITY SERIES. I’d also venture to say that they also didn’t invent PREGNANCY. I’m pretty sure THAT WAS GOD. Lexia, your photos were/are amazing. I remember finding your site back when I was living in L.A. and thinking, “Ryan was good, but Lexia, WOW!” I plan on doing a series myself someday when my husband and I are ready to expand our family, and I plan on scouring the ‘net to find the best of the best pregnancy photos to get inspiration from; Lex, your site will be very high up on that list :)
