maternity series, 19 weeks

December 27, 2009

Alright, here we go!  as promised, i am going to be documenting week by week the pregnancy process until may 20th when i’m due.   it is a personal project that was inspired by photographer and blogger Ryan from Pacing the Panic Room.  a select few photographers are now doing this kind of series, the maternity series, and i think that Ryan hit a jackpot idea when he started it with his wife, Cole when she was pregnant with their baby Tessa.   instead of, or in addition to, a regular maternity photoshoot, how great is it to document week by week, the entire process of pregnancy?  it really is an amazing thing. and i love that i can write a mini letter to the tiny bambino… it’s definitely helping me connect with him or her.

here are some out takes that didn’t quite make the cut:

and then i started to feel a bit queasy, so the session ended!  but i think we got quite a few good pics before any morning sickness scenarios occurred!

December 9, 2009

alright! we’re finally making the BIG announcement on the blog! many of you already know, but just so it’s official… WE”RE EXPECTING NUMBER 2!!!!

i’m 16 weeks along, and i’ll be posting pictures every week of the progress!  so far it’s been… well… rough.  morning sickness and blood pressure have not been my best friends (among many other pregnancy lovelies, that i will not go into detail with on a professional blog!)  but other than those minor details, everything has been great!  baby is healthy and everything is moving along at a normal, healthy pace.  i’m due may 20th, so i will not be booking any weddings or shoots my 9th month, as well as taking a semi maternity leave this summer in june and july, with the exception of the weddings i’m shooting in wisconsin.  i am shooting a wedding June 18th (and if you’ve done the math, thats not even a month after i’ve delivered!)  but will be tag teaming with Dustin (my second shooter/ that guy that i’m married to/ that one guy who fathers my children) for that wedding, so i can take little breaks to nurse the smallest peanut!

here are the details on the bambino….

we’re going to wait to find out the sex of the baby (because there are so few surprises in life!) because we’ll be happy either way! a brother for tavish, or a little girl for me.  and if it’s a girl, well, i guess she’ll be wearing some of her brother’s hand-me-downs for the first few weeks!

he/she’s kicking up a storm… a ridiculous storm.  there is a circus in my tummy, and it features somewhere around 10-12 different types of circus animals, all of which come out at different times of the day to perform their stunts of epic proportions.

no food cravings yet, except for milk. and more milk.  and please, may i have another glass of milk? WHAT? the gallon is GONE? i bought it YESTERDAY!

and, i’ve lost weight…. but not worried because my appetite is back up and with the holidays putting on weight is NOT going to be a problem.

well, we’re so happy to share this news with all of you!  and please, if you’re one of my clients who’s hired me to shoot their wedding this spring, please warn your guests that your photographer indeed is pregnant, and yes, she will STILL be standing on chairs and tables and ladders to get the ideal perspective for certain shots, and there is nothing you can do about it. i will try and be as inconspicuous as i possibly can!

old school film

December 9, 2009

Here are some of the final images from the engagement session of Evan and Mark.  this is the real deal folks… no faked “vintage” filters overlayed on a digital image, no fake “film” boarders added to the edges… what you see is what you get.  it’s SO NICE when i get a client who is interested in doing old school film photography… it’s what i was brought up with, it’s what i was trained in, and i miss spending entire nights in the dark room slowly developing my prints in chemical trays and watching the image slowly come up.  there is something so terrifying about not being able to see your image right away after taking it, and exciting at the same time!   and the satisfaction after that entire wait?  so fantastic.

so all of these photos were taken at their engagement session. you’ll notice there are a lot of objects as well,  i try to include as much fine art photography as possible (because clients that request film services generally appreciate fine art!) as well as images of the couple.  these images were taken with toy cameras, slide film, and an old camera from 1917 that is essentially a box, with a hole, and a slit for film.  it has one button, and that is a trigger to release the shutter!  ohhhh the days of simplicity :)

film services start at only 100.00 which is a STEAL considering the price of film and development these days!   definitely consider doing this for your upcoming wedding or engagement session!
